At Dean Field we aim to meet the needs of all learners in an inclusive learning environment, tailored to individual learning needs through quality first teaching. Our teaching is supported by our Assertive Mentoring system that is in place throughout the school, keeping the children at the centre of everything we do. We therefore do not have a prescribed timetable by which the curriculum for English and Maths is taught because the lessons are planned in response to the knowledge and understanding of the learners, identifying gaps and informing teaching. Our curriculum for English and Maths is therefore relevant, dynamic and personalised to learning needs in line with the National Curriculum for English and Maths. We teach Phonics following the Letters and Sounds programme across the school.
As a school we are developing strategies to encourage our children to be more reflective about their own beliefs through our own Dean Field curriculum and the RE and PSHCE woven throughout it. We explore other faiths, beliefs and cultures in our assemblies and focus on making choices, right and wrong, legal boundaries and how behaviour has consequences. Through the school council we instil basic understanding of democracy and fundamental British values of freedom and liberty, rule of law, equality, tolerance and respect.
